The First Division, Spain (officially, and for reasons of patronage,
Liga BBVA) is the highest category of the Spanish league soccer.
Participants - Teams
In this division have been involved 55 different teams but only three have remained
in first division from the outset. The only clubs that have coveted all competitions
for the League, always in the Primera Division, are Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and
Athletic Club de Bilbao. These three, along with Osasuna, are the only sports bodies
which are still owned by their members, not Corporations Sports owned shareholders.
The only stadium that has hosted all editions of the league is San Mames, the stadium's
Athletic Club Bilbao.
Currently there are 20 teams in the tournament. Although in the early years only
10 teams participating, later became progressively increasing the figure to the
current 20 teams, although even the 22 seasons during 1995/96 and 1996/97.

In the summer of 1995, the LFP decided to exclude from its competitions for the
1995-96 season at Celta Vigo and Sevilla FC (thus relegated to Second Division B)
by various defects in the documentation of their registration, the day after the
deadline for their surrender. Simultaneously, Real Valladolid and Albacete, two
teams descended to the Second Division in Spain at the conclusion of the previous
championship, were invited by the LFP to fill the seats of Celta and Sevilla, rushing
to formalize their registration.
Celta de Vigo and Sevilla FC delivered resources by virtue of the General Law on
the Administration and the Common Administrative Procedure, whereas the LFP had
violated the right of both entities to rectify, once notified, the shortcomings
of a dossier handed over documentary in time. For his part, Real Valladolid and
Albacete also presented their arguments to the Supreme Council of Sports, it inapplicable
to the Administrative Procedure Act because the LFP and the RFEF of private entities,
so we are demanding recognition of their status after having accepted the received
the invitation and formalized them under registration is required.
In parallel and as a means of pressure, there were major demonstrations by the supporters
of the clubs involved and even from the CSD, was denounced political pressure.
